Sappee Summer Theatre brings an unforgettable musical to the stage about the life of Juha Vainio! This summer, Sappee invites you to look behind the songs – to the place where the beloved melodies and lyrics of Finland were born. The musical tells the eventful and touching story of Juha “Junnu” Vainio (1938–1990).
One of Finland’s most significant lyricists created nearly 2,500 song lyrics and compositions during his career. He is the author of numerous timeless classics that continue to live on in the hearts of Finns.
The performance takes the audience on a journey from Junnu’s youth to the peak years of his career and finally to the calmer period after his recovery. Expect familiar music, joy, nostalgia, and heartfelt moments – the story of the person behind the songs.
In the title role shines Jussi Puhakka, known for his long and versatile career in theatre, television, and film. Other roles are played by, among others, Vintte Viitanen, Marjaana Manninen, Aapo Oranen, and Tuuli Anikari.
